A message from Louise Cowin, Vice-President, Students and Philip Steenkamp, Vice-President, External Relations
We are very pleased to welcome Adrian Fischer to UBC in the new role of Managing Director, Campus Experience. Reporting jointly to Louise Cowin, Vice-President, Students and Philip Steenkamp, Vice-President, External, Adrian will lead the design and implementation of a Campus Experience Strategic Plan. Adrian’s focus will be to advise across UBC and work with contributors to the campus experience to achieve an increased sense of belonging and pride in UBC, as well as to amplify community engagement and affiliation with UBC. In the early months of Adrian’s tenure, he will focus on varsity athletics, recreation, and other campus-wide events.
Adrian Fischer comes to UBC with a diverse background in the development and operation of compelling experiences from a wide range of entertainment, leisure and hospitality organizations. Having grown up in Canada, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta before he went to the US to earn a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA. He then built an international career there, as well as in Asia, Australia and Europe.
After holding a variety of leadership positions in non-profit arts, including with the vocal ensemble Chanticleer, the Sydney Opera House, the San Francisco Opera, Theatre Calgary, and the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, he joined the Walt Disney Company. At Disney he lead a large multifaceted entertainment experience in Singapore and Taipei, and later held an executive position at Disneyland Resort in California. His executive career continued with Blue Man Group, leading their ten shows around the world, and most recently with Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises, developing programming and operating their global fleets. Adrian is thrilled to be returning home to Canada.
We look forward to capitalizing on the diverse experiences Adrian brings to his new role, and to engaging the entire UBC community in the development of an outstanding campus experience.
