A message from, Louise Cowin, Vice-President, Students, Lisa Castle, Vice-President, Human Resources and Hubert Lai, Q.C., University Counsel
This week the UBC Board of Governors approved a second draft of the policy, known as Policy #131 — Sexual Assault and Other Sexual Misconduct.
The initial draft of this policy was issued in June 2016, and a UBC community consultation period was held from June to October 2016. This included a series of information sessions and meetings with stakeholders.
Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback during the consultation period. Key themes that emerged from the comments included the need for a central support office, and for a separate and distinct investigatory process.
As a result of that feedback, and the new BC legislation (the Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act), a number of significant changes have been made to the draft policy. Given these changes, the university is once again inviting you to provide feedback. This latest consultation period will be open until March 14, 2017. View the draft policy.
We encourage you to engage in this process and provide comments on the new draft of Policy #131 — Sexual Assault and Other Sexual Misconduct. Please submit feedback via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or through the confidential feedback survey.
In addition, there will be two public information sessions. One will take place on the Vancouver campus on February 28, 2017, and one will take place on the Okanagan campus on March 6, 2017. Learn more.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have participated in the policy development process to date, in particular the members of the Sexual Assault Policy Committee, the University Sexual Assault Panel, and the Steering Committee on Sexual Assault.
It is important that we continue to facilitate meaningful engagement around these issues. Thank you once again to all those who have taken the time to submit feedback.
