Susan Murphy appointed Head, Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine

Susan Murphy has been appointed Head, Department of Physical Therapy, effective July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020, following her appointment as Interim Head since January 1, 2016.

Ms. Murphy is a Senior Instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy. She trained as a physical therapist and started her academic career teaching in the clinical setting. She has held a number of leadership roles in the department over the past two decades, including terms as Acting Division Head of Physiotherapy from 2002-2006 and as Associate Head of Clinical Education from 2008-2015. Since January 2016, she has been Interim Head of the Department. Prior to working full time at UBC, Ms. Murphy worked clinically for many years, with a focus on critical care. Her educational leadership and scholarship focuses on clinical education, the teaching of professionalism, and the use of standardized patients in physiotherapy, and she has recently been appointed as a scholar within the Centre for Health Education Scholarship.
